So How Is This Special Room Called?
- Baños: so “baths” is a name mainly used in Cuba.
- Aseos: the toilets are often referred to in Spain as “washing room”.
- Servicios: is another possibility, i.e. the service station ?
- Lavabos: lavabos are usually referred to as washrooms, but the term can also refer to toilets.
- Tocador is also a washroom designed to renew make-up – but the term can also sometimes be used for toilets.
- El Sanitario: according to LEO translator, is mainly used in Colombia, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, Uruguay and Venezuela.
- El Cagadero finally what one could translate as the place where you shit 😀
Babylon On The Toilet
So you see: rarely is the confusion in Spanish as great as when going to the toilet – and this when it is most urgent. And in the worst case you have neither the time nor the mental capacity to consult a Spanish dictionary 😀
Which Door Is It?
And as English speaking man you tend to go on the M, like “mister” – but in Spanish, the M stands for Mujer, i.e. lady, while the H stands for hombre, i.e. the man. So, if you aren’t careful, you end up behind the wrong door 😉
