Cuban-Chrome-Banner von DMAXCreating Cars like the Cubans

Cuban Chrome is a typical man’s show, fixing cars, you know – only this time in Cuba, and this time, obviously, about Cuba’s biggest trademarks, the vintage cars. Cuban Chrome follows several Cuban car afficionados: Fernando, a mechanic who wants to fulfill his dream of his own Chevrolet Bel Air, Roberto, his new employee, and Demetrio, an Almendron (=collecitve taxi) driver who wants to convert his Oldsmobile into a tourist car – because he wants to be admitted to the automobile club… and of course earn more money with a tourist car 😉

Apart from the Bel Air Fernando also has a Ford Model 40 Muscle Car, with which he drives (now legal) car races.

Cuban Chrome Stream on Discovery Channel

One can’t watch the Discovery Channel stream from outside of the US – but it’s there!

Mehrere Oldtimer in HavannaAll episodes are free (with TV subscription on Discovery Channel. YouTube sometimes has some languages (Russian and Portugues at the moment, one or two in Spanish), but they have the tendency to disappear.

Tip: Go to Youtube, search for Cuban Chrome and use the filter “Long (>20 Minutes) to find full episodes

If you search the internet, you might find some other streams as well, but be careful and use protection (ad- or cookie blocker). The German version of Cuban Chrome, for example, you might find on DokuJunkies.org. To download, you can use a program like DownlodadHelper for Firefox or JDownloader, an external download manager, makes the whole process easier.

Conclusion: Cuban Chorme – Take a Look at the World of Cuban Cars!

Oldtimer an Ampel Calle LCuban Chrome is of course a typical American kitsch show, partly constructed situations (or how else would they have been recorded, was the camera already in the room by chance?!), clichés etc.? But this does not detract from the overall concept, because those who are interested in cars, Cuba and especially the typical vintage cars, will love the show. And I love it, too, and I don’t even have a driving licence. Why? Because it transports much of the typical Cuban way of life, the need of everyday improvisation, the inventiveness and the talent to fight the daily fight (“La Lucha”). And on a side note, in Cuban Chrome we don’t have the usual clichés about beautiful, friendly people, but real men, who sometimes swear and say what they mean.

Have fun watching real Cuban life!
Saludos from Berlin,
Dietmar
